Equation Products On Stage at Gibson Showcase

Filed under: Musicians Using Equation Audio @ 4:22 pm

Steve Kimbrough, Engineer at the Gibson Showcase is now using Equation products. He stated, “I have been using the DSV10 vocal mics, as well as the entire drum package for several months now. At the Gibson showcase we pretty much run the gambit as far as “different types of acts” and in every respect the mics have performed flawlessly. We also do alot of recording and they go to tape as well as they perform live. The most important thing in the end is that every artist so far has been very pleased with the product so it is a win win situation. In addition to the fine equipment, the support staff from Equation has been very helpful in answering all of my questions and concerns.”

Steve is using the Alpha Series MTD Drum Mics. Pictured here are the DMI.102.S on rack toms, DMI.101 on floor toms and the DMI.104.SLF on kick drums. Steve uses the DMI.102.S on snare drums as well. He also uses the DMI.104.SLF on the guitar cabinets as shown above.

Kirk Willie2.jpgKirk Willie, FOH Engineer and studio owner who has toured with John Michael Montgomery, Ricochet, Jessica Andrews and Billy Gilman and recently completed a tour with Ashley Tisdale is now using Equation MTD.7.2 drum mics! He said “I have recorded 10 songs with the new mics, and I really love them. The overheads are among some of the best I have ever heard. The kick drum has a really tight, great low in presence, and the toms mics are transparent. These mics are a really great product..I will continue to use Equation MTD mics on every session.”

Thanks Kirk for your support!

John Tristao of Creedence Clearwater Revisited recently sent some shots of our Alpha Series drum mics in his project studio. He says “I’m crazy about the new mics. I had to retune my Stulways, Johndio for the mics themselves. Instead of the kick mic being right up near the beater I keep this one right outside the sound hole. The tom mics had to be angled slightly because they pick up the full spectrum of tone and ring, and the low toms thunder. The overhead condensers are so accurate I stopped using my expensive tube mic for the room.”

John has achieved career heights few others have in Rock-n-Roll. He is currently the frontman for Creedence Clearwater Revisited, the band that features original CCR bassist Stu Cook and drummer Doug Clifford, and spreads the joyous sound of all those chart-topping Creedence Clearwater Revival songs to the faithful around the world. Before being tapped by Creedence, Tristao had logged many years with San Jose hitmakers People and West Coast faves Daddy-o. But his formative years weren’t much different from a small army of American teenagers inspired to play rock ‘n’ roll when they first saw the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964.

Thanks for the great pics, John. We are glad you like the mics. ROCK ON!

Featured Community Alliance: Nashville Jazz Workshop

Filed under: Musicians Using Equation Audio, Community @ 12:08 pm

kirk.jpgEquation Audio is proud to promote the Nashville Jazz Workshop as one of our community alliances. The Nashville Jazz Workshop is Nashville’s community center for jazz, with classes, public performances, and special events. The Nashville Jazz Workshop is a non-profit organization supporting jazz musicians, jazz fans, and the jazz community.

The organization was founded in 1998 as the Nashville Jazz Institute by Lori Mechem and Roger Spencer, and opened with a handful of students. The program was based on a workshop model developed by Mechem and Spencer growing out of their dissatisfaction with traditional academic jazz education. The workshop model is based on a journeyman/apprentice approach. Students have the chance to play with faculty and perform in different settings. The school attracted a loyal and growing following of students. It also became clear that besides helping the students and instructors, the workshop format was a unique approach to jazz education that could benefit the entire community. (more…)

The Vinnie Colaiuta Story…

Filed under: Musicians Using Equation Audio @ 11:18 am

VCondrms-w-XB-1s.jpgIt was just under two years ago that we received an email one evening informing us that a well-known drummer was wearing a pair of our XB-1 headphones in an advertisement for another company, one that didn’t sell headphones. That artist was Vinnie Colaiuta. At the time of the purchase, we didn’t know he had purchased the phones from Fred Z, `Z Product Guy’.

A few months later, a friend, Erik Zobler, George Duke’s engineer asked Vinnie if he needed headphones when he arrived for a session and Vinnie responded with “I won’t go anywhere without my Equations!” Coming from Vinnie, who’s introductions are not necessary for most of us in the industry, his affinity for our product is an affirmation of the extra time and care we put into everything we develop and place on the market.

VC-22x.jpgThe XB-1’s have since been replaced with RP-22X’s, a very similar model but featuring a few important value and performance enhancements. Extended bass response, increased power handling, exceptional ballistics, without noticeable loss of definition provide drummers, percussionist and bass players with a new and valuable tool, as well as added to Vinnie’s affinity for our products and additional reality to our slogan, “Beyond Equal”.

sebastian.jpgSebastian Forbes seen working over a new mini version of Equation Audio’s Tec Awards nominee for 2007, the DS-V10.

When CEO Bruce Forbes was asked if there were concerns about the little artist’s young age, he said, “We have a long honored tradition of working hard and starting early… it’s a family thing.”

“We’re trying to get him ready for the upcoming ceremony in New York during the AES Convention,” says Forbes.

The RP-22X Is A HOT Pick For Drummers:

The verdict is in: drummers think the RP-22X is a killer set of cans for stage and studio use.

The RP-22X has all the clarity and performance you would expect from a top notch pro headphone, with the added bass that drummers need to hear the low end through the mix.

A big challenge for percussionists on stage and in the studio is to get a solid bass sound in their monitor mix that is both loud enough to hear over the room, and completely isolated from the mics. No problem: the 22x features a frequency response that you won't find anywhere else, with drivers tuned to maximize bass without sacrificing any spectrum clarity, AND a special ear pad design to improve the bass response!

The 22x is converting drummers everywhere. As a matter of fact, we had a particular professional drummer order a whole box of em' to have handy in his project studio!

Equation does it again!
